Audiobook Review of Embattled Hearts by J.M. Madden

One of the things that can turn a reader off  while listening to an audio book is the narration. Is the narrators cadence smooth and words pronounced correctly? One of my personal pet peeves is when certain syllables in words are over exaggerated or  overemphasized.
I found the narration of this book by Eric G. Dove to be amazing! This book has been brought to life by his smooth reading style and even speaking cadence.  Author JM Madden writes in a manner that hooks you from the first sentence...she gets you invested in the characters and her writing style pulls you to read more of the book than you actually have time for (my poor family has had to order take out more than once). THIS is where audiobooks are such a wonderful change of pace for me.
This story of John Palmer and Shannon Murphy is filled with excitement, lust, mystery and one heck of a storyline that ends in an HEA. Ms Madden writes in a manner that doesn't glamorize or patronize our wounded heroes, but in fact brings them into real life situations and shows that feel as if they are every bit as real as me or you, they have hopes of finding real love and fears about being accepted/rejected because their physical scars. John Palmer with his broody nature is one of my favorite characters and listening to this book really brought his persona and personal issues into real perspective.
I give this Audiobook 5 stars
Below is my review from 2016

John Palmer is a combat modified Marine who's one of the three owners if Lost and Found detective agency. Shannon Murphy is the office manager who fantasizes about about the possibilities of a romantic relationship with one of her bosses -John Palmer.
John is still carrying a lot of resentment about the accident that ended his military career. He's been fantasizing about the possibility of Shannon ever needing a man like him. He feels as if he could be enough and she wonders if he would let her into his heart.
Trust me, you'll laugh, cry and fall in love with all of the guys from the Lost and Found agency! You'll get hooked on the series and look forward to the stories of each of the men and women getting their much deserved HEA!

Flat Line by JM Madden book 12 Sleeper SEALs series

The Sleeper SEALs series has been phenomenal!  I loved Flat Line - if you ask me, it was oh so very good! AND it looks like another spin off for her Lost and Found series, this one will be taking place in Columbus Ohio! It's a Win/Win for JM's readers!

Outside, there was another melee going on that she couldn't make sense of. It looked like several men, all with middle-eastern coloring like the two that had just attacked her, had piled onto one big Caucasian male. They had him on the ground and were pounding the hell out of him, it looked like.
Andromeda was torn. Had the man seen something and been trying to help her? Or was he just in the wrong place at the wrong time?
Her tires barked on the pavement as she turned onto the street and started away. Then she glanced into the rearview mirror.
One of the middle-eastern men held a gun out toward the man on the ground, then the man on the ground brought one out as well. The attackers scattered away when it appeared they were going to be in the middle of a firefight. Time stilled, and she stomped on the brakes. Desperate to derail what was about to happen, she blew her horn and slammed the vehicle into reverse.
The transmission whined as she floored the Range Rover into a controlled back up, targeting the standing man with the gun. He didn't even glance up at the car barreling down on him until it was almost too late. At the last possible moment, he glanced up. Even as he started to lunge away, the gun went off. Then a second gun went off. Even inside the vehicle she could hear the report of the weapons.
Andromeda jerked the wheel to the side, parking the Range Rover between the attackers and the man on the ground. She looked down at him, screaming for him to get up and get in. But some piece of her consciousness realized that she'd stepped into a time warp. She recognized the man like she’d spoken to him just yesterday, though it had been years. Parker Quinn lay on the ground, squinting in pain, black gun in hand.
Parker Quinn? Seriously? What the ever loving fuck was going on?
He scrambled to his feet, though it seemed like it took him a very long time. Was he in pain? Even as he lunged into the rear seat, she was already flooring the vehicle.  It took him a moment to get all the way into the seat and close the door, but she didn't dare slow down to let him get situated. She stared at him in the rearview mirror though. Even as she drove like the devil was on her ass, she stared at her former lover in the back seat.
"Turn here," he snapped. "Right. Right."
Andromeda slammed on the brakes and cranked the wheel.
"Stop beside that gray pickup."
She followed the line of Parker's finger and stopped beside a non-descript Chevy truck.

Tumbling out of her vehicle he keyed a remote for the gray pickup and reached inside. He pulled out a big tan duffel, shut the door, locked it and got back into her vehicle, this time in the front seat.

"Go!"
Andromeda floored it, terrified that any minute now she would see a car in pursuit.
For some reason she turned away from the prosecutor's office and headed toward High Street.
There was plenty of traffic there and plenty of places to pull over and take a breath.

Parker was talking to her but there was a ringing in her ears that deafened her. She could see his hard lips moving but couldn't hear his beautiful voice.

review of Trying the Knot by J.M. Madden

Trying the Knot (The Lowells of Honeywell, Texas, #3)Trying the Knot by J.M. Madden
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I received an ARC of Trying the Knot" in exchange for an honest review.

Ms Madden has brought us another wonderful insight to the Lowell Family dynamic. IN this story, we gain a better insight into Jackson Windwalker as Ms. Madden gives us his his backstory. I honestly cried while readying his story, silent tears streaked down my cheeks.

Emily Lowell isn't exactly the black sheep of the family, but she also knows what she wants to do career wise and ranching isn't it. She makes a life and starts her own business in Houston- miles and miles away from her family in Honeywell Texas.

We come now to Emily and Jackson- their love was young and wild and everything first love could possibly be. Reading the love between these two was what made this story so believable. It's why you feel the way you do about Jackson going after his girl, you want him to regain Emily's love.
Before Emily left for college, she and Jackson made a pact, they gave themselves 10 years to meet someone else, fall in love and get married, if they hadn't, that they would meet again...It's now 11 years later. Emily knows that she's in trouble- in a couple of ways but she's too proud to admit it, to anyone. Jackson has only once ever let anyone get into his heart and that was Emily. For Emily, she's compared every man she's ever met and dated to Jackson. She might be engaged but she knows in her heart she's not with the right man, one who will put HER and their relationship First.
I loved how Ms. Madden shows us how deep Jackson's love for Emily truly is and what he's willing to give up in order to have that forever kind of love that he knows it out there with Emily. Emily needs a wake up call and Jackson delivers it to her in a most unexpected and delightful way. He might of come on strong while they were in Honeywell, but here in Houston, his love is soft and not over powering. He lets Emily make all of the moves...he knows her better than anyone, even herself.

This was a wonderful book and I hope that Ms. Madden decides to expand on this series.

review of Lost and Found Pieces by J.M. Madden

Lost and Found Pieces (Lost and Found, #5.7)Lost and Found Pieces by J.M. Madden
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

No Christmas is complete without a Lost and Found Christmas Story! Author JM Madden has given her fans a true gift-it’s seeing their favorite Lost and Found members at Christmas.
Zeke & Ember and Little Drew will tug at your heart strings.
Gabe & Julie- growing stronger together.
John & Shannon- you’re going to see the growth in their relationship and how having a house full of pets and a couple of babies has filled him full of love and appreciation for the riches he has in his life. Caden and Wyatt- twin little boys I hope we see more of as they grow. Poor Pickle- keep that cat in your prayers people, LOL!
And you get to meet Sam Willet my favorite ginger, really meet him! You find out about his injuries (a lot of research went into his injury and it’s a whopper). He’s a hero in every sense of the word in”The Purple Christmas Miracle”.
Sparrow Holmes is our heroine and it’s a match made the LNF way! Sparrow is surprising as much as she is refreshing in Willet eyes. Willet saw Sparrow, really saw her for her and not just her purple hair. I’m looking forward to seeing their relationship evolve. 💜 Thank you JM Madden for this wonderful heartwarming series of Christmas Novellas. Merry Christmas!

Review of Naughty by Nature by J.M. Madden

Naughty by Nature (The Lowells of Honeywell, Texas, #2)Naughty by Nature by J.M. Madden
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Author J.m. Madden never ceases to amaze me with the emotional depth of her books. There were silent tears streaming down my cheeks as I read parts of this book. She gives you a connection to her characters that makes them feel as if you have known them all of your life. Her words paint a story in our heads and in our hearts. Any woman who has been abused can relate to Cheyenne Lowell and her story. Any man who has lost the love of his life to breast cancer (or any type of cancer) can relate to this story as well. I'm not going to give away the story line, that's not my thing. I'm here to tell you how this book grabbed me emotionally and left me utterly satisfied with the ending.

This is not a series for just women, I feel that men can get a lot out of this series as well. Ms. Madden does her homework and knows her stuff when it comes to PTSD, Abuse of any sort and of course she can write one hell of a bad guy! I think that her years spent in Law Enforcement has given her a better knowledge than most when it comes to some of the kinds of subject matter that she writes about in her books.

From the first page she's snared me with Cheyenne's story, making me want to know more about her and about Sheriff Sheridan Lane. As I turned pages into the wee hours of the night, I knew that I wasn't willing to put my kindle down until one of two things happened...I finished the book or my kindle bonked me in the face, lucky for me I finished the book.

Untying His Not (The Lowells of Honeywell, Texas, #1)Untying His Not by J.M. Madden
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I received this book as an ARC and liked it so much that I bought it!

Brock Lowell is certainly one misunderstood cowboy! With so many things going on in his life all at once, it's obvious that he's feeling a bit overwhelmed.

Payton is a woman who knows what she wants, and she's wanted Brock Lowell for a LONG TIME! The simmering attraction between Brock and Payton is going to turn into a Full on BOIL that's going to Steam up Your Glasses! So pour yourself a tall glass of ice tea, turn the ceiling fan on high and be prepared to have your socks knocked off as Ms. Madden shows us all how lovin' is done Cowboy Style!

Lost and Found Series Box SetLost and Found Series Box Set by J.M. Madden
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I've read each of these stories as they were purchased as individual books. Each book in the Lost and Found series is an amazing tribute to combat modified veterans and to the service men and women they served with. Ms. Madden writes about real life issues in relation to the various injuries suffered to the military men and women while in combat situations not limited to PTSD. I have high respect for any author who writes of the human condition, but most especially for this author and this series as she does not glamorize this nor does she seek fame or fortune by it. She writes from the heart and wants to give each and every combat modified veteran their own HEA by finding the person that accepts them for who they are on outside and for truly seeing the person they are in the inside.

Review of SEAL's Christmas Dream by J.M. Madden

SEAL's Christmas Dream (Lost and Found)SEAL's Christmas Dream by J.M. Madden
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I have to state that I love it when a story that was once part of an anthology is expanded upon!

We all have our "go to" authors, ones whom we feel really do their research into the subject matter in their books. This one in particular deals with PTSD and flashbacks to loss on the battlefield. Our hero Joe Flynn is written so well and in such a manner you feel as if he's someone you know. His partner, mother of his child and love of his life Willow James D.V.M. is another one of those fictional characters that you can see as being someone you could know and be friends with in real life.

The story lines of Ms. Madden's books are realistic and deal with real life situations. This book in particular deals with PTSD, domestic violence, animal abuse, drugs, and a local dog fighting ring- none of which are subjects to be taken lightly. Ms. Madden writes in such a manner that grabs your attention and brings the story to you in such a manner that you can not put it down! I read this book in one sitting and I blocked out the world! I was a sobbing mess i some parts and the ending had me crying tears of joy! I've read the story twice and It's going to be in my "read again" folder on my kindle.

Review of Mistletoe Mischief by J.M. Madden

Mistletoe Mischief (Lost and Found, #5.5)Mistletoe Mischief by J.M. Madden
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I received this book as an ARC and this is my honest opinion of what I have read.

This book is the cut out scenes from "Embattled Ever After" (Duncan Wilde's story). This is not a stand alone book, this is a bonus of sorts, a treat to her readers!

Ms. Maddden writes Combat Modified Hero's in a way that makes them feel like they can be your co-workers, neighbors and yes even dear friends and lovers too! She gives us endearing people who have real fears about love and rejection just like we all have. She gives us a story that shows those fears and misgivings, she shows our heroes stumbling and in the end, how our heroes overcome them. As the saying goes...Combat modified doesn't mean the end, it's just the start of a new beginning.

Roger Stottsberry has been a long time favorite Lost and Found character of mine and I'd been hoping that he would have his own story of finding love. Ms. Madden does not disappoint her fans with this book of cut out scenes. Roger has a blind date, and on this date he wonders is it really is possible to fall in love in just one night.
We all know Roger to be this lovable, playful and thoughtful friend to the guys and Shannon at Lost and Found Investigations (LNF for short), but he's also harboring his own secrets and ghosts haunt his dreams as well. There's a lot more to Roger than meets the eye.

Cassandra is a brilliantly written character full of her own fears and has suffered her own tragedies in life. Ms. Madden has made her a strong character that's optimistic. Their story is quick paced and had me tearing up a time or two. Mistletoe Mischief indeed!

Gabe and Julie- we met them in the Kindle Worlds book "Reclaiming the SEAL"- that book about tore my heart out, but Gabe and Julie got a second chance and were reunited and my heart was pieced back together again. Their road was a long one and their move across country and their transitions into new jobs was another hurdle. Again Ms. Madden wows her readers with another insight into Gabe and Julie-Their story of love continues and it's a lovely couple of chapters that revolve around Christmas and finding the perfect gift to give to the woman who is the love of his life, His True North. This story too had me tearing up.

Zeke and Ember- we met them in "Embattled Minds". We get to see life with them a year later...reading the ending of this particular story in this book, well it had tears running down my face and a heart busting full of love for them! Zeke, Ember and Drew, what a loving family.

Have tissues ready because you are going to need them! Get the 3 ply, you'll thank me later.

If I could, I'd give this a 10 star rating! So well written and done because she loves her readers and wanted to give them all a little more.

Review of The Billionaires Secret Obsession by JM Madden

The Billionaire's Secret ObsessionThe Billionaire's Secret Obsession by J.M. Madden
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I received this ARC in exchange for an honest and fair review from the author.
Once again JM Madden shows us the depths of her creative mind by writing us a story of a man who grew up in a family that used money, power, deceit and manipulation to get what they wanted in life. Too bad that life was an empty shell, and one mans secret longing for being accepted for who he was as a man. He saw something in an artist and her paintings as the emotions he saw in those paintings effects him on a deeply hidden level.

This is a love story that shows you the reader, that there is more to a person than what you see on the surface and there's more to life than living it alone.

Book Release- Embattled Ever After by JM Madden

Embattled Ever After is LIVE!
This is the final book in the Lost and Found Series.

Duncan Wilde has avoided long-term relationships very well since his fiancée left him wounded in the hospital years ago. That one harsh lesson—that he needed to guard his heart—has stuck with him for years. Besides, he's a beat up old Marine well past his time for love. The fiery haired doctor from Kansas City seems to think otherwise, though. Too bad she's so damn young.
Alex Hartfield grew up as a military brat, but she sees something in Duncan that makes her think of permanence and starting a family.  She wants someone to come home to every night and love, and he's the first man that makes her guarded heart race with hope and excitement.

Now… as they try to understand the dangerous incidents going on around them, they fight to find common ground. But it seems as if fate has some tricks up her sleeve.

Available on all platforms!

Short Excerpt-
While he waited for the truck to warm he grabbed a banana from the browning bunch and took a bite. He really did need to get a few groceries at some point.
Alex came into the kitchen and he paused mid-chew, stunned at what a blow dryer and a little make-up did for her. Now, he liked the natural look as well as any man, but there was something about knowing that a woman had taken care with her appearance just for you that made a man melt. When she met his eyes, she knew he was affected and a slow smile spread her dark pink lips. Then she crossed the kitchen to him and holding his gaze, leaned down to take a bite of the banana in his hand.
Duncan swallowed, his dick warming with arousal.
“Hm. I usually like them a little more firm.” She winked at him audaciously, then headed out the door to the garage.
Damn, that woman was going to kill him. Ridiculously, though, he grinned and followed her out the door.

Long Excerpt-
Then he looked up, his dark eyes in shadow, and Alex remembered how much she wasn't wearing. Though she worked out fairly regularly, she still tended to be a little leaner than was perhaps good for her. With her hours and not so great eating schedule, it was hard for her to gain weight. Her boobs had always been a nice C though, which men seemed to appreciate.
She dropped the towel beside the tub and used the steps to climb in, aware his eyes were on her the entire time. Gasping, she sank down, loving the feel of the heat. "Oh, damn this feels good."
He smiled in agreement and rested his head back against the rim. "As soon as I get in, I can feel the tension in my tendons easing. It's one of the few things that actually helps with my pain."
Heat had wonderful recuperative properties, so she wasn't surprised he enjoyed it so much. They used baths much the same way at the hospital where she worked.
Their legs bumped under the water and she felt him shift away, but they were still in close proximity to each other. Alex wanted to slide over and lean her head against his shoulder, but even that might be too much, too fast. It was a very strange phenomenon, but she felt like she belonged with him. They matched somehow. She wasn't sure how exactly, but it was enough to keep her looking for ways to get in.
"I wanted to thank you for going with me tonight," he told her quietly. "You kind of got sucked into the drama."
Alex chuckled. "Well, I don't mind drama. And I was with you, so it was all good."
He gave her a narrow-eyed look. "I'm not a catch, Alex."
She shrugged, knowing he was trying to warn her off. "I'm not after a catch. I'd be happy with a guy who knew how to show a girl a good time."
Grinning, she allowed herself to slip under the water, then lifted back up, slicking her hair back. Duncan continued to stare at her, as if he still couldn't believe her words. Well, if he wouldn't believe her words, maybe he would believe her actions.
In spite of her feeling that they should move slowly, she pushed across the suddenly small tub. Making sure to keep her hips angled out so that there was no chance she would bump into him, she rested her hands on his strong shoulders. His hands came up to hold her ribs and he gave her the perfect support she needed to lean in for a soft kiss. For a moment she feared he would push her away, but he didn't.
He tasted of...she wasn't sure what. But it was minty and spicy and exciting and intriguing. In spite of her plans to keep it short, Alex lingered. With one hand she reached up, cupping his lean cheek. It bristled with beard hairs, but she smoothed down, with the lay of the grain. Feeling a little daring she reached out with the tip of her tongue, tasting his lower lip.

For most of this Duncan held completely still and let her do what she wanted, not responding to her kiss. But when she tasted him, licking along his lips, he seemed to give in to some inner struggle. One of his hands moved down to cup her hip, pulling her deeper into the water, and the other hand reached up to cup the back of her head. Then, using his grip on her hair, he took control of the kiss.

Review of Embattled Ever After by JM Madden

Embattled Ever After (Lost and Found #5)Embattled Ever After by J.M. Madden
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is the book we've been waiting for ever since Embattled Hearts. Duncan Wilde finally gets his story. Ms. Madden has done a superb job at depicting real life situations for her characters in her Lost and Found series.

When I first discovered her books a few years ago I was astounded to find that she had no military background, yet she writes as though she has lived the military lifestyle. Being a military brat and spouse of a career military veteran, I found myself drawn to her books like a moth to a flame.
Ms. Madden never once downplays the seriousness of conditions such PTSD or holds back on the true to life situations that her military men and women go through in her books. It's obvious that she's done extensive research on PTSD and the various injuries depicted by her characters. She's honest and true when she describes her characters emotions. It's because of these qualities in her ability as a writer to make her characters leap off of the page and grab your heartstrings.

We get to see most of the characters make an appearance in this book. As secrets are revealed, there are more introduced. Ms. Madden has written an emotionally gripping book, one that has lots of suspense, just the right touch of heart pounding drama, heartbreak, healing and a true everlasting love. Buy this book, you will not be disappointed!
