Review of Delta Salvation by Elle Boon

Delta Salvation (Phantom Force, #1)Delta Salvation by Elle Boon
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

4 stars

Delta Salvation by Elle Boon

The book starts off with our heroine Alexa trying to escape a bad situation, one that goes from bad to worse. Through a series of truly crazy situations she is rescued by a group of Navy SEAL's that are tracking a traitor. Our hero Kai really goes all out to save the girl and is rewarded when she too returns his love. The book has great action and yes, there's hot monkey sex the way only Elle Boon can write it!

We meet Rowan and Lyric, characters from Ms.Boons previous book Lyric's Accidental Mate and with a little help from the Iron Wolves MC the SEAL's are able to take down the bad guys.

There's lots of action with our Navy SEAL's engaging the bad guys in gun fights and hand to hand combat. There's the suspense, drama and mystery of why everyone seems to be after Alexa. There's several scenery changes and even the mention of Ellsworth AFB and Rapid City in South Dakota.

Review of True Virtue by Jax Hunter

True Virtue (True Heroes Military Romance #4)True Virtue by Jax Hunter
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

True Virtue by Jax Hunter
5 Stars ( I really do wish that I could give her more)

I received this book as a gift from the author in exchange for an honest review

Ms. Hunter has a new and original perspective on the military romance genre. This is Air Force Pararescue Jumpers also referred to in her books as PJ's and no it's not about pilots- okay that's the next book, but seriously I am delighted to have come across her books and I find myself recommending her books to others who are looking for something a little different. Her books might not have the steamy hot sex scenes that some books have, but that should not be a deterrent. The emotional content in the True Heroes series grows higher with each book I've read. The chemistry between the characters practically leaps off of the page as you read their conversations. This author's attention to detail helps to paint the scenes of Yosemite in your head. I've actually been to Yosemite and its every bit as beautiful as Ms. Hunter depicts in her writing.

We start this book with Daniel Fraser, who is dealing with his grief from the loss his wife to cancer months earlier. It was heartbreaking to see him withdraw from everything and everyone and I was hoping that he would get to find love again. Daniel is in charge of SAR (Search and Rescue) and he's an ex Navy SEAL.

Sophie Riene is a French rock climber and is in Merced California to photograph scenic parts of Yosemite for a picture book. Both Sophie and Daniel are making their way through their own kinds of heartache when they meet.

What grows between them is slow and precious. It takes Daniel the longest time to accept his feeling for Sophie but when he does, he's all in. Sophie, oh how I loved her character, she's so patient with Daniel. Then she suffers a great loss and there's a tragedy that effects her and Daniel. It's Ms. Hunters writing of the tragic scene, and the aftermath that had tears streaming down my face as I read and re-read it not believing what was before my eyes. And our Daniel, trust me, we all want to be loved in the way that he loves his Sophie. The ending was perfect and it made my heart soar! This is one of those stories that stats with two lost people not knowing that they were lost until they found one another. Then out of tragedy, has our hero and heroine grow stronger seperatly and together. Each has to come to their own terms with what has happened.

Buy this book, buy the whole series! You'll find it a new and interesting take on military romance.

ARC's and Honest Reviews

I've been blessed to have been given ARC's (advance reader copy/copies) of books to read and review by various authors over the past few years, some have been offered to me and others I outright asked to review. I never ever ask for a copy of a book that I know in my heart that I'm not going to like. So it surprised me when I learned (I've sat in on more than one conversation over the past couple of weeks) about readers who are on street teams that routinely request books from authors only to give them a 3 or lower rating on their books. Some even stating in the subject line of their reviews "I'm not into [fill in the genre of the book here]". Seriously? That had floored me! You go as far as to be on a Street Team, ask to be given an ARC of the book, you know the genre that author writes, not to mention you know the subject matter and still you write that you are not into whatever the book is about? I think that YOU as a reader/reviewer need to reevaluate why you are asking to review books that you obviously do not enjoy. It's hurtful to the author to come across an ARC review to find out that not only has this person hated the book, worse yet that the person consistently asked for and has received free copies of books that she just doesn't like. That the person is on the Street Team of an author in which she doesn't enjoy the genre at all. In all honesty I have to ask, Why do they do it? You are getting a FREE Book in exchange for an honest review, but how honest are you being with that author if you don't enjoy reading her books?

The other thing I'm seeing is readers receiving ARC's and not leaving reviews, or worse just not reading the book. If you don't have time to read/ review the book, then say so! Own up to it, they understand that life gets in the way (they're people too you know). Now none of this behavior is very fair to the authors who have entrusted you with a copy of their book. They need the review numbers (good or bad) to get up in rankings so Amazon will recommend their books to other readers. Be thoughtful and courteous and always say thank you when receiving an ARC of a book. Authors take note, this is where a good PA (personal assistant) is essential to helping you weed out bad eggs from your street teams, keep in touch with readers and see who is keeping up with actually writing and posting reviews for books that they have received from you. I'm not trolling for a PA job, trust me I have plenty on my plate right now. Honestly though, if you recognize this kind of thing going on in your group, its to reevaluate your ARC distribution list. A good PA would aid you in securing new people from your fan base to rotate through your ARC list for future reader/reviewers. So stop giving those ARC's out to people who obviously don't like or appreciate your work!

Review of Take A Piece of My Heart by Diane Rose Duffy (audible)

I was gifted this book by the author in exchange for an honest review.
Jennifer Bossio's narration of this book was spot on perfection!

This is my extended review

Kara was a wonderful character to get to know and we get to know her through a series of diary entries. Kara went with her heart when she chose to be with bad boy Danny. She spends years in an abusive relationship. As I read this book, it mirrored the life of one of my girlfriends from when I was in my twenties. It was heartbreaking to read or in my case to listen to Kara tell of her abuse. She's a victim of domestic violence and had been for years and only she can get herself out of this vicious cycle as she no longer has any friends but one.

She loves with her whole heart and you'll see that throughout the entire book. We see Kara experience many ups and downs and we meet a wide cast of characters as Kara pieces together her new life. Poor Kara, every time we think that shes found something good, something else happens and she gets the proverbial rug pulled out from under her more than once, but shes resilient. There are so many twists and turns in this book that I don't want to give anything away.

I think that writing this book as a series of journal entries was a brilliant idea. It gives us a unique perspective of how our main character Kara thinks. The ending was fantastic and it made my heart leap for joy!

Just believe me when I say that you will enjoy this book. It'll make you mad, it'll make you gasp and it'll even make you cry. But in the end everything comes together! In a way, Diane Rose Duffy took a piece of my own heart with this book.

Review of Lyric's Accidental Mate by Elle Boon

Lyric’s Accidental Mate, Iron Wolves MC Book 1Lyric’s Accidental Mate, Iron Wolves MC Book 1 by Elle Boon
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Lyric's Accidental Mate (Iron Wolves MC-1 Bite of the Moon) by Elle Boon
5 stars

This is my first book by Ms. Boon and I can honestly tell you right now that it won't be my last! There's everything that you could want in an action type of paranormal romance novel, Suspense, Drama, kick ass heroes and heroines.

Rowan being ex-military and an all around kick you ass take names later kind of Alpha Male makes hims the perfect mate for Lyric and that was in his human form. All it takes is a combination of being in the wrong place at the wrong time and an act of chivalry for our lead characters to meet. Everything takes place after that happens at such record speed, but don't let that fool you into thinking that this book lacks detail, because that simply in not the case! There is mystery, suspense, drama and yes sizzling hot sex between two consenting adults. The sex is not tasteless or crude and it very much enhances and adds depth and meaning to the story line.

Review of Assisting Aimee by Susan Stoker

Assisting Aimee (Delta Force Heroes, #1.5)Assisting Aimee by Susan Stoker
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

5 stars (I'd give it more if I could)
Assisting Aimee (Delta Force Heroes) by Susan Stoker
I gave myself a book hangover reading this novella! For a "short book" (I use that term loosely) it packs a lot of content! Ms.Stoker sets us up with two former military people working as school teachers, after that it's a real look into what life is like after military service. Our h is Aimee O'Brien -gym teacher and our H is Tony Santoro- first-grade teacher, both have harbored a secret crush on the other. It's when all hell breaks loose that we find out what our couple is made of. It his is a book about having Courage Under Fire and protecting the innocent with your very life if need be, while looking brave on the outside while trying not to panic. It's a non-stop heart pounding drama, while our couple is starting to discover that they may have found their very own forever kind of love. I didn't cry until the end of the book, when I was coming down from my adrenaline rush. I loved Tony and Aimee, and Aimee is the kind of woman we all aspire to be.

Review of Rogue by Laura Marie Altom

Rogue (SEAL Team: Disavowed #1)Rogue by Laura Marie Altom
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

5 stars
Rogue by Laura Marie Altom
I was gifted this book by the author in exchange for an honest review.

This is book 1 in a new series by author Laura Marie Altom. I have to say that this story line will hit you like a gut punch! These are a group of Disavowed Navy Seals, that in the eyes of some are nothing more than thugs or criminals and to others they are seen as angels sent from heaven to protect and save them. They do what it takes to take car of th bad guys and save the good guys, so their methods aren't as ethical as they should be, would you argue that point if it was you that they were rescuing from a life and death situation?
This is the first of this kind of novel for me and it certainly won't be my last! This is a thrilling and engrossing new novel that I'm sure that you're going to want to sink into!

Review of Irresistible Passion by AJ Harmon

Irresistible Passion (Irresistible, #5)Irresistible Passion by A.J. Harmon
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Irresistible Passion
By AJ Harmon
DIY meets 50 Shades
I was given this ARC by the author for an honest review

Ms. Harmon has written books on such a broad spectrum of topics, each as different yet enthralling to read.
Here in our book Irresistible Passion you have a middle aged woman who has even married for quite a few years, its obvious that she's read a "certain erotic romance novel series" and is thinking that some how her own "love life" has become boring and mundane. She gives her husband a copy of the first book to read and tells I'm that she's become bored with their sex life. What ensues after he reads the book is hysterical and it's simply erotic comedy at its BEST! It's hot passionate love making gone wrong in the most embarrassing ways! It will leave you with tears in your eyes and an appreciation for "vanilla sex".

I read this book out loud to my husband, he was quite literally cracking up. You'll be able to see parts of any middle aged couple in this book. You felt for them, understood where our heroine was coming from but understood our hero as well. This is a true erotic romance comedy!

One Last Fight (part 1) by Ava Ashely
3.75 stars but I'll bump it up to a 4 because of the rating chart

I received this as an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review

We have our main characters Rafe and Lily and the premise of this book is that they are estranged lovers and they meet again on a television dating show that's much like the bachelor. Rafe is an MMA fighter who has been injured and his manager is getting him "air time" so he can have a bit of public exposure and to get some name recognition going on before this big fight that's several months away. Lily just wants to apologize and get some closure in her life. Adding drama seems to be the main thing in this book- add in over a dozen women vying for the attention of one man and you have drama!

"To me", it seems as if everyone has their own agenda to being a part of this TV reality show...from Rafe's manager to Lily his ex-girlfriend, to the producers and the other women on the show. There's loads of drama in this book, parts of it make me shake my head. But the "real show" is the unfinished business between Rafe and Lily. They still have their chemistry but is Rafe willing to forgive Lily after she tells him what she came to say? We have to wait until book 2 because this ends in a cliffhanger.
